McGRAW TALKS ABOUT HAVANA RACING NEW YORK, X. Y., December 11. John J. Mc-Graw, one of the new owners of the Cuba -American Jockey and Anto Club, who lias just returned from Cuba to attend to some baseball matters, when asked to say something about the racing at Havana, replied: "In a nutshell, the meeting that is in progress now is just about one-third better in every way than it was the corresponding days of last year. Mr. Stoneliam and myself are more than pleased witli the outlook. "The funny part about the whole thing." continued Mr. McGraw, "is the fact that since Mr. Stoneliam and I have been down there neither one of us lias hld the slightest desire to put a bet down, notwithstanding our usual feelings in that direction. Stoneliam lias not yet been in the ring, or hardly cast an eye on the mutuel machines. When we tcok over a controlling interest in the track we decided absolutely that neither one of us would make a wager on any horse that runs at the track. Mr. Stonehams colt Different Eyes won a race yesterday, and though he was in New York he did not even bet on him. We are adamant on this subject, our attention being solely in the interest of good racing and the welfare of the sport. "We know it would be detrimental to our interests in the track to do anything that would cast a shadow on the conduct of the sport, and decided to satisfy ourselves with .looking on and enjoying the entertainment as well as the unexcelled climate. Up to the present to us it is just a money-making holiday. We are having a good time and our only ambition is to see Havana become the greatest recreation ground for winter sport in the world. I am learning the ins and outs of race track management just to set acquainted witli racing affairs in all details. Some day I mav be called upon- to do something in that line and I just want to know. Both Mr. Stone-ham and myself are returning to Havana on Friday or Monday next for the remainder of the season."
