ST. CROIX HANDICAP TO RIGHT ANGLE Easily Defeats a Fast Bend of Sprinters in Main Race a.t. Oriental Park. HAVANA, Cuba, December 29. The St. Croix Handicap, a dash of five and a half furlongs, for which 11. purse of- 00 was hung up, was the feature :race of todays card at Oriental Park. It brought a field of good sprinters to the post and furnished an" easy victory for W. Dugans Right Angle, which won in a canter, with Skiles Knob second and Eulah F. third. Close finishes were the order in several of the races and the winners were in doubt until the official plaeiugs were displayed. , J. Umensetter turned over to H. Baldwin the two-year-old Vain Chick in exchange for Lackrose. H. Upmaiiu sold at private terms to W. Gargan the horse Gilder. Starter Milton placed Avion on the schooling list. Racing secretary Martin Nathauson announced that the Antilles Claiming Stakes, with 200 added, will be run on Sunday, January 11. Magic Memory and- Baladiu were the only horses which changed ownership at the sale held after the races oh Saturday. Both were secured by H. Davis. Among the distinguished visitors Sunday were. Admiral Benton C. Decker and Capt. Charles Morgan, commander of the Key West naval utation. who-, occupied the presidential, lox as guests of .the Cuban government. A number of high government officials acted as escorts. The party also included Boas .W. Long,, newly appointed minister to Cuba. Old Red annexed the inaugural dash of the afternoon, leading all. the .way.. He. was tiring at the end and Polar Cub, gaining with every stride, was wearing the. winner down. . The second resulted in a hot finish between The Gleamer and Dione. The former set a terrific early pace and came again after Jill had forged to; the front to get up in the last few strides, but only after a sineWTstraining struggle with Dione. . Again in the following race the spectators were treated to another sensational finish, in this in-stance Deckhand, by virtue of a superior ride 011 tin? part of Crump, earning the decision over Golden King after the "hitter looked all over the winner entering the stretch. The filly Miss Procter, heavily " backed, made :i show of her opponents In the fourth race, holding a safi lead from start to finish, while Gold Stone, of which much was cxiected, quit badly after an, early . display ot .speed. An auction sale of horses in training will be held in the paddock after the races next Sunday. The -consignment includes horses belonging to, .the. Columbia and, Elmere Stables; also those owned by H. W. Boyer. Jockey J. Dominick severed connections witli the stable of J. C, Mizell. Abe Levy, a well-known bookmaker who formerly operated at Oriental Park, arrived this morning, lie will stay for the remainder of the meeting. I. I. Hurtz claimed Horace Lerch from W. F. Poison for ,450.
