CANADIAN MEMBER ASSAILS RACING Dr Brien of Windsor District Seeks Alolition of All Betting TOUOXTO Out March 27 Ottawa dispatches say Dr 1 W Irion M 1 of South Kssex Windsor district has announced that he will raise the subject of race track betting in the House of Commons this session He has given notice of a resolution calling for prohibition of bottlns in tho following terms That in the opinion of this house race track gambling as conducted in Canada in connection with running races is nothing short of legalized organized and commercialized vice that it tends to lower the moral standing of the na ¬ tion that it will ultimately defeat tho very pur ¬ pose for which it is advocated namely the propa ¬ gation and development of thoroughbred horses that it affords easy access to our country to un ¬ desirables with whom the present immigration staff cannot contend that in every city whore It is carried on it interferes with business depletes bank accounts and causes social chaos in general and therefore should be prohibited prohibitedDr Dr Irien says that if it appears necessary ho will introduce n bill to amend the criminal code in such a manner as to prohibit organized betting at race courses He is personally opposed to or ¬ ganized betting at running race meetings and that he feels that if it is to be allowed to continue in Canada the Dominion of the Provinces should license and regulate the business and take tho rev ¬ enue accruing from it itTho Tho government has now before it the report of Dr liutherford tho royal commissioner who inves ¬ tigated the whole subject of racing and betting on races in th Dominion DominionIt It was the proposal when Dr IJuthorford tho royal commissioner was appointed that iKtting nt race tracks should not be resumed until ho had re IKirtod and the government had an opportunity to decide whether or not it would introduce legisla ¬ tion on tho subject at the present session of parliament parliamentThe The government course has not yet been deter ¬ mined
