GREAT INTEREST IN FRENCH RACING PARIS France March IS March 15 the opening day of the Paris racing season at the Auteuil course such an immense crowd passed through the turn ¬ stiles that the authorities would not give the fig ¬ ures for publication The reason for this may be that the people of the republic might become curi ¬ ous as to what becomes of all the money Since the war the price of admission to French race courses has been greatly increased In the case of Longchamps and Auteuil the price of entry to the popular inclosures has been doubled The Paris Sport cstihiated the opening days gate receipts at 4 000 The value of the live races on the program was collectively less than 10000 large part of which is raised by the owners subscription fees There is thus a balance of nearly 40000 which after the deduction of a few hundred dollars for working expenses presumably becomes dividend The parimiitnels workers are of course paid out of the belting money which on the day In question February 15 execedd 10011100 As ricini takes rphiie practically every day of the year in France it may be assumed that the various racing societies lire making up somewhat for time lost during the thewar war
