LATONIAS FITTING FINISH Grand Meeting Comes to a Close With Noble Racing Minto II Wins the Daniel Boone BooneHandicap Handicap from Dr Clark in inAmerican American Record Time RY J L DEMPSEY DEMPSEYLATONIA LATONIA Ky July 10 Kentuckians found considerable consolation this afternoon for recent victories carried off by eastern owned horses in stakes when Minto II carrying the colors of W V Thraves won the Daniel Boone Handicap at a mile and a half and having a net value to the winner of 11225 Harry Payne Whitneys Dr Clark landed in second place and Cleopatra third with Drastic pressing her closely for that portion of the money Only on one other occasion lias Minto II s performance been equaled from a time standpoint This occurred last fall at Laurel when Sam C Hildreths Thunderclap ran a mile and a half in 229 the same time that it took Minto II to cover the track liere once and a half Aside from the time performance Minto II s race was a sparkler for lie stuck gamely to Dr Clark which made a killing pace in the early running and when the Whitney representative showed signs of distress Minto II rushed by him with a dash He was still going fast at the finish and could have continued a longer journey without seeming danger of being headed On the strength of her recent good work Cleopatra found many partisans in the big throng and ruled a strong favorite but after flattering extensively for the first mile she tired badly when called on and had she much far ¬ ther to go Drastic would have overhauled her for third place Beaverkill ran a fairly good race but Oniond the other starter seemed out of iilace in the race and finished far back backW W B Millers Gold Digger funished an upset in the sixth ace which brought out the best band of youngsters now racing here and he won in fine style from the well intended Last Hose Ben Valet headed the others othersHorses Horses sold in the paddock brought poor prices Results of the sale follow followSecond one His good trials had been known to the sharps and they backed him with rare confi ¬ dence resulting in a short price ruling against the colt coltIn In the threequarters 2000 handicap Linden furnished an upset when he won after a hard drive from Joricu and Ginger with American Ace Carmandale and Dodge the three most heavily backed bringing up in the rear rearDr Dr Carmen attracted most support in the mile and a sixteenth dash but he proved a dismal fail ¬ ure for he did not get a portion of the purse Sands of Pleasure running in his best style win ¬ ning from Escovar and Docod Kscovar ran nn extra good race for him and gives promise of de ¬ veloping into a crack crackMahel Mahel G opened proceedings auspiciously for the public by a victory in the initial race but she had her difficulties in disposing of Sand Bed The latter came again in the stretch and was press ¬ ing the winner hard at the finish finishThe The meeting which terminated this afternoon was in all respects the best in the long history of this track and exceeded even the most roseate expecta ¬ tions of the management The daily attendance has been of wonderful numbers and on feature days the plant was inadequate to accommodate the crowds The racing has been wholesome and unattended by any unsavory incidents incidentsChief Chief action of a judicial nature the stewards were called upon to deal out applied against rough riding and some of the jockeys were given stiff suspensions which had a salutary effect General Manager Matt J Winn and Resident Manager Harry F Breivogi1 can well feel
