GREATER MACOMBER AMERICAN STABLE Big Band of CaliforniaBred Yearlings Ready for Next Years Racing SAN FRANCISCO Cal July 10 Friends of A K 3IaComber who is doing so well in rac ¬ ing in France have received letters to the ef ¬ fect that his racing establishment in the United States will be enlarged to a great extent for next years campaign on the New York tracks The owner has thirtyfour yearlings of fash ¬ ionable lineage on farms near here and six ¬ teen of the number are to be taken up in a few weeks for preparation for twoyearold racing Some of the others may be put into training later on 3Ir 3Iacomber only has Star 3Iaster Royce Rools Fruit Cake and a few others to represent him on the metropolitan circuit this year He has advised his connections in California that he has no intention of confining his racing activities to France as has been reported on many occasions occasionsOf Of course all Californians interested in the great thoroughbred Industry and its thrilling ad ¬ junct racing are pulling hard for the 3Iacomber colors to conquer in the coming Grand Prix de Paris to be run at Longchamps June 27 in which the California breeder and owner will be repre ¬ sented by the redoubtable Pendennis the Rabelais Confection colt Mr Macomber took the trip by airplane from Paris to London on the morning of Epsom Derby Day in order to get an accurate line one some of the threeyearolds his horse will have to meet in the Grand Prix The air trip was made in two hours and twentythree minutes cut ¬ ting down juite a bit the flight time of Lloyd George some time ago of two hours and thirty seven iniriutes Spion Kop winner of the Derby is eligible to the great French race but as to whether or not he is of the caliber of Pendennis is problematical English horsemen at present vis ¬ iting here say the threeyearolds in England this season are an ordinary band and hold small prom ¬ ise of defeating the best of the horses in France if the thoroughbreds on the continent are any ¬ where near the standard of other years yearsThe The recent death of the stallion Fariman by Gallinule Ballizona by Necroiiiancer recalled the career on the race course of Our Lassie to which sonifc of the 3Iacomber stallions are related Our Lassie by Ayrshire Yours by 3Ielton was rac ¬ ing in the same years as the iioted English stal ¬ lion In 1502 she was defeated by the son of Gallinule in the Great Lancashire Breeders Produce Stakes The following year she won the Epsom Oaks and other good stakes Judging from photo ¬ graphs Our Lassie was a much better looking filly than1 the famous Pretty Polly She was clean limbed with a deep barrel muscular forearm and with quarters1 not too broad to take away a be ¬ coming feminine appearance She is the dam of Hesperus one of the 3Iacomher stallions and dam of Fair Lassie the dam of War Cry another of the English horses at Charles Boots Elmwood Stock Farm where the Macomber stallions brood mares and most of the yearlings are quartered
