MANYIMPROVEMENTS AT LAUREL PARK Now Paddock Under Course of Construction Addi ¬ tional Stables Built to Replace Those Burned BALTIMORE Mil July 10 Extensive improve ¬ ments are now under way iit Laurel Park which will be completed in plenty of time for the fall meeting in Octolier OctolierMost Most pretentious of the improvements is a new paddock which is being liuilt on the broad lawns to the right of the clubhouse This structure will In on most modern lines circular in shape and novel in detail The building will haye a liameter rf 121 feet The back of tin building will lx inclosed with glass in the up er sections The front which will be tin part facing the track Avill be a series of arches entering on a broad promenade walk from which a complete view of the entire paddock may be had Xo one is to be permitted beypnd this walk but owners and train ¬ ers with their assistants that have horses par ¬ ticipating in a race The roof of the building will be set high and will bo chiefly of glass with a system of ventillation which can be controlled for th changes in the weather conditions conditionsTwenty Twenty stalls will be provided They will be big and roomy 11 by 10 feet dimensions which mean ample room for saddling and other pre ¬ liminary preparation The walking ring will be eightyone feet in diameter without obstruction the roof being supported by five uprights in the center where a station for the paddock judge will be arranged on a raised platform Beyond the paddock will he a new building in Which pro ¬ vision will le made for the office of the racing secretary jockey quarters a scale room hospital horsemens rooms and an administration office ns well as a rest room and diningroom for the riders ridersThe The building will be three stories in height and the plans call for many details entirely new in structures of this sort Both this iHiildiiij and the paddock will be set well back so they will not interfere in any way with the view of the track from the clubhouse and grandstand Tlie stables at the head of the stretch which were burned last winter have been replaced by four new barns of mcxVrn design containing llS stalls and thirtytwo living rooms for the stable employes Mayn of these rooms are arranged on a second story the ends of the stables being finished with a cottage effect effectThe The old paddcok has neen removed and the space it occirpied used for an extension of the grand ¬ stand This means accommodations for a couple of thousand more of the tricks patrons patronsShirts Shirts last fall every attention has been given the steeplechase course and this will continue until it is needed for racing The management appreciating the popularity of this class of sport is doing everything to provide a turf that will satisfy the owners of jumpers and this means that practically every stable that shelters a cross ¬ country performer will be oii hand to participate
