DEATH OF PRETTY POLLYS RIDER LONDON England July 4 William Lane the jockey who at cue time held a prominent placi iong the riders of the day died at his residenc sit Lingfield a few days ago His name will al ¬ ways be associated with the famous mare Pretty Polly as he rode her for most of her engagements and was identified with her classic victories He was compelled to relinquish riding by the terrible injuries he met with at Linsficld in September UIOI He was riding Relossclsky in the Two Miles Selling Handicap when Master Newby another ot the competitors fell and brought down Lanes mount From the effects of the hurts then received lie never recovered Though he went for a sea voyage f some duration and received every medical attention he was not seen iu the saddle after ¬ ward
