YOUNGER SISTER OF TRACERY FOUND Yearling Filly by Nesof pi Toque Discovered in France to Be Brought Back to England Some little time ago I mentioned that I had heard of a sevenyearold brood mare called Toque a sister to Tracery with a yearling filly and a filly foal both by Xogofnl son of Childwick winner of the1 French Derby and one of the most successful sires in France There is no harm in now stating that the International Horse Agency and Exchange has bought the mare and foal after having had them inspected and reported on by Baron Edouard de Rothschilds private veterinary surgeon wlosc statements are entirely favorable in every detail They are to be brought over to England Few people in this country or even in France can have hud any idea of the existence of such a mare but there she is Mr August Belmont in an unlucky hour for him ¬ self siit Topiary to France in 1912 mated with Rock Sand which was himself bought by a French syndicate that year Toque was the produce foaled in 1913 and then next year came the war Topiary had a dead colt by Hock Sand in 1914 and yas barren to him in 191 the horse himself having died in July 1914 So Toque is the absolutely last of the family though Topiary produced a filly by Flint Rock in 19K named Topaz The war having played deadly havoc with racing in France Mr Belmout had his bloodstock dispersed as best he could and Toque was secured for the Haras de la Gcuevraye where Negofol stands She missed to that horse the first time of asking but as already shown produce foals in the next two years and is believed to be again certain in foal to him It is an ill wind that blows nobody any good and though the adverse exchange deters French breed ¬ ers from buying stock in England the temptation to sell here is correspondingly great That is the reason why Toque has been parted with for the price represents twice as many francs as it would do In normal times It is curious how persistently the No 19 family keeps comins to the front this year Toque is of course a No 19 mare and her fillies by Negofol are bred as regards figures much like Hammerkop and Sirenia being inbred to 19 through Childwick and Topiary half brother and sister I pointed out on Wednesday how the French Derby winner Sourbier is also of No 19 family and inbred to it W Allison in London Sportsman
