HANDICAP TO ST. QUENTIN Dunn Racer Scores Narrowly, Tiring Under Heavy Impost. i Sunnyland First in Secondary Attraction Day of Upsets and Surprises. r II WINDSOR, Ontario, September 7. Showing a return to his best form, .7. B. Dunns St. Quentin captured the handicap at three-quarters of a mile, which featured tlie card at Devonshire Park this afternoon. He took the lead at the rise of the barrier and led by a comfortable margin to the final eighth, when his heavy impost began to have tolling effect. Tlie last sixteenth found Buxton driving to the limit to get the son of His Majesty home in front by the smallest possible margin. Mayor House, nfter disposing of Ticklish, tnade a game bid to overhaul the Dunn representative in the last eighth and would have succeeded in another stride. In going to his liking Ticklish, tlie favorite, ran prominently to the stretch, but weakened when the final test came and was beaten for third place in the closing strides. The races were run over a heavy but drying out track and form upsets were frequent. The greatest surprise came with the running of the initial race when Beau Brummel II. defeated a band of maidens, returning a dividend of 0.80 for . Running in the colors of her new owner for the first time, First Pullet made good for C. R. Daly when she scored a close decision over Anticipate in the third .race. - Jockey Buxton, who piloted St. Quentin, also rode .the winner of the claiming handicap at one mile and a sixteenth, the secondary feature, which went to Sunnyland. He drew away decisively in the last eighth after following the early pacemaker, Dr. Carmen, to the stretch. The three placed horses came to the end fighting it out heads apart in the sixth race, Joan of Arc earning the verdict in the closing strides. G. R. Bryson served as the-steward in the stand today representing tlie horsemen. Jockey Yeargin has severed his connection with the R. D. Williams stable and will accompany the stable of G. R. Allen to Kentucky at the close here tomorrow. J. L. Paul claimed Poilu from A. Hill in the last race here yesterday, in which he was represented by Gourmand. Jockeys Ileinisch and Mooney were suspended for the remaining two days of the meeting for rough riding in the last race Monday. Jockey B. Kennedy was unable to ride today owing to an injury received yesterday while the horses were at the post in tlie last race. Corydon reared and struck Kennedy while astride Gourmand, inflicting a gash in his head.
