MAD MAY raced in closest pursuit, but had to be shaken up to oiitstav BERTHA S when the latter challenged at the eighth post. BERTHA S. began slowly anil linished fast. KINGS CHAMPION was saved behind the otiiers until rounding the far turn, where he began closing up on the leaders and was brought on the outside when entering the homestretch, then came with, a rush and won going away. ROYAL JESTER sot a fast early pace and withstood a challenge from ST. PAUL on the hackstretch, but gave way when the winner challenged.- ST. PAUL raced well and finished gamely, hut tiring. MINATA made a stumble at the sixteenth fence and his rider lost one of his stirrup irons, but recovered quickly and finished gamely.
