His victory wnu entirely unexpected, being the extreme eut-slder and rewarded his few supporters to the tune of over 80 to 1. Gossip Avenue and Aphie Dear "were .given the call in the race won by Rettina and lossiij Avenue flattered extensively during tlie early part of the race by maintaining a big lead, but the stretch found her tiring fast and Rettina had little, difficulty in passing her. Aphie Dear might have been a menacing contender to Rettina but for interference she suffered from. Bleak, wintry weather was the order this afternoon, with an occasional light snower, and the cum-Mimticn caused a decreased attendance from that present yesterday. Rig fields of ordinary racers took part in the dashes and in many instances inexperienced riders subjected some of the others to interference. George Starr and Out the Way. the latter making Ills first start since undergoing an operation for throat trouble, made a fast pace and rounded into the. stretch on even terms many lengths before Cotton Blossom, but both tired, Out the Way particularly, and Cotton Blossom, coming on steadily, got up In the last seventy yards to pass George Starr.
