JAMAICA MEETING FAVORED Big Crowd Braves Chilly Weather and Is Rewarded with Some Good Racing. JAMAICA. N. Y., October 1. Chilling blarts from the ocean failed to keep the regulars in full force from attending the opening day of fall rac ng at Jamaica. While the wind blew no good fcr the talent in the feature race, the Montague Handicap, it brought good luck to "Bud" Fisher of "Muf and Jeff" fame, for his colors, borne by Vice-Chairman, finished in front at the long odds of twenty to one. Neddam was hammered down from evens to one to two at post time. The Redstone stables candidate was shuffled back to last place soon after the start and could never recover the lost ground. Vice-Chairman was the quickest away and, racing next to the rail all the way, managed to outstay Sea Mint the final drive. Sea Mint was ridden hard through the last eighth and Neddam came fast near the finish and got up in time to beat St. Allan a head for third money. Albert A., heavily backed choice for the third race, for selling platers, at one mile and a sixteenth, made good, due to the vigorous ride given him by Jockey Ensor. Sea Sinner set the early pace, out lie dropped back on the turn into the stretch. Enor then brought. Albert A. quickly to the rail and, saving ground, sent him into a good lead in Hie final eighth, winning by a length from Natural Bridget which came from fourth position fifty yards out. Sunny land, always a forward contender, beat Sea Sinner by a head for third place. By skillful riding jockey Clarence Kummer lifted James Gassers Queen Blonde over in a close finish with .Too Joe in the second race, witli War Map third. The latter set a fast pace to the stretch bend, where Joe Joe took the lead. He appeared all over the winner when an eighth out, but Kummer, aboard Queen Blonde, crawled up on Joe Joe inch by inch until she got her head in front in the closing strides. Turf showed early speed, but quit badly in the stretch, finishing last. Mulciber was much the best of the two-year-olds, which started in the opening dash. He made the pace fast from soon after the start, winning eased up by two lengths. Sedgefield was a slight choice over Mulciber, but after holding a brief lead fell I out of contention, then came fast, however, in the final drive to take third money. Care Free ran . 1 u good race and finished second after following Mulciber through the stretch. Jockey C. Miller lias signed a contract to ride for C. A. Stonehain, his contract with the Ascot . 1 Stable having expired. Jockey Miller will go to Havana to ride the Stoneham horses in the coining winter. He lias recently been riding in good form. P.
