ENGLISH STUD STATISTICS W. S. Kilmer Has Two Brothers of the Noted Sun Briar for Future Racing. BY E. E. COUSSELL. LONDON, England, October 15. For many years British breeders have complained that the official foal list appeared too late to be of service at the Newmarket December sales. Naturally prospective buyers wished to. ascertain the stud records of the mares offered. The full story was usually available about three months after the sales,. Veatlierby Si Sons have just published a supplement to Volume v i23 of the General Stud Book, which contains a list of the 1920 foals. An analysis of the list of stallions showed the following as the most virile foal getters during the 1919 breeding season: Number of Number of Sire. Foals. Sire. Foals. Sunstar . 49 Roi Herode 2i Son-in-Law 35 Feather Bed 25 Lomond 34 Hurry On 25 Black Jester 33 Juggernaut 25 Corcyra 33 Rock Flint 25 Junior 30 Bachelors Double ... 24 Flying Orb 29 Beppo 24 Bridge of Earn ..... 28 Golden Sun 24 Great Sport 28 . Stornoway 24 Swynford 28 White Magic 24 Charles OMalley 27 Call o the Wild 23 Friar Marcus 27 Pommern 23 Tracery 27 The Tetrarch 23 Grosvenor 20 Argos and Greenback each begat twenty-two foals; Royal Canopy and Stedfast twenty-one each; Marten. Poor Boy, Volta and Young Pegasus twenty each; Happy Warrior, Hapsburg, Lemberg and . Polymelia nineteen each. P0LYMELUS HAS POOR SEASOK. The number of foals sired by Polymelus is contrary to expectation, for, after the early months of the season, owing to his pastern weakness, many of liis proposed mates were sent to other liorses. For instance, there are three foals described as by Polymelus or Pommern, and one by Polymelus or Sunder. Pommern has apparently thoroughly overcome, his aversion to stud duties. He has a bay filly from Sifver" Tag which is closely related to Silvern and Fifinella. Sunstar must be credited with fifty foals, for Mr. Kilmers mare. Sweet. Briar, last spring foaled, a grand, colt. She was sent to the United States last autumn, having at foot a brother to Sun Briar. She was mated to Sunstar on the principal of using the -best available .son of a sire which had already done well with the mare a principle with which the late Duke of Westminster scored many great successes. Among Sunstars foals" is a brother to Buchan. Son-in-Laws. list was but little over forty mares and, with thirty-five foals, he has a high percentage, as,, jn addition, two more jnares. foaled-twins which died and, naturally, are not included in the total. Black. Jesters list includes a half-brother to -your Bolster and to Thunderer. Flying 0ri is a young sire which gets a lot of juvenile winners. Among his. 1920 foals are colts from American Girl, Don-netta,. the dam of Diadem, and her half-sister, Renaissance, The Tetrarch has an infinitely better record this year, though shrewd observers who have seen his foals state they compare unfavorably with the earlier crop.. The. race course test will prove the correctness of their opinion. Perfect- Peach has a sister to Stefan the Great and Sareiiedon. Deca-gqne has a half -sister to Prince Galahad. Royal Rucks dam has a bay filly and Jest, an Oaks winner, a beautiful chestnut colt. Of the., twenty -thre.e The Tetrarch foas only four are actually, returned as grays. Five others are described : as chestnut or gray, one as a roan, and one other as "bay, brown or gray." Among the others there are five chestnuts and six bays. The colts are in the proportion of nine against fourteen, fillies. . The first offspring of Grosvenor, Hurry On, Argos and Royal Canopy will be two.-.year-olds in 1921.
