REMARKABLE HORSE OF LONG AGO One of the most remarkable horses that ever ran was Isaac, on which Sam Darlings grandfather won so many races in the early half of the last century. He was a gray horse, bred by the Hon. T. O. Powlett in 1831, by Figaro Jack Spigots dam, by Sorcerer, granddam by Precipitate, great granddam by Highflyer Tiffany, by Eclipse. He ran first as a four-year-old in 1835, and he continued campaigning until 1846, running 101 times and winning forty-eight times. This career is even more remarkable than may be at first thought, for many of the races were run in heats needing two and often three struggles, so that in reality Isaacs life on the turf was oven more strenuous than that of Fisherman. His great year was 1839, when he started twenty-three times and won nineteen races. London Sportsman.
