ANCIENT HISTORY OF CHESTER CUP In 1810 Gen. Grosvenor gave a cup valued at 00 . and joined Sir T. G. Egerton in another worth 00. The city contributed, too, and to ,give more extension still to that policy a stake was devised in 1824 to stand in the name of the tradesmen of Chester, who contributed 00. There were, later on, proposals to add some cheese to the bounty, and If good traders of Chester had had their way the winner of the cup might have carried off a ton of that delicious commodity.
