CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF William Woodard is making preparations to ship n carload of horses belonging to himself and others from Kentucky to New Orleans. Fourteen additional nominations to the Belmont stakes of 1923 have been received from Hal Price Headley, Of Belmont Stud of Kentucwy, who is in Paris. The entries came from Prance. J. T. Combs of Louisville, a veteran trainer of horses, died at New Orleans .Tuesday of injuries sustained from an epileptic fit fall. His remains were sent to Louisville for burial. Kay Sppnee is not going to Cuba this winter. He was quite a factor there in the past. He will stick tp his Louisville home and care for the Thraves nnd his own horses at Douglas Park during the cold months. Golden Broom was one of the sharp disappointments Of 1020. He won but r0. Against his cost of 5,000 as a yearling at Saratoga in 1918 goes 0,050, ,SO0 of which was won by the handsome Sweeper Zuna colt as a two-year-old in 1919. There, is under consideration by the Maryland Jockey Club the matter of starting and finishing all Pimlico mile races at the sixteenth post, so as to give starters a longer run to the first turn. No decision has been reached, but there are excellent reasons for the change.
