NOTED FRENCH. OWNER DIES Edmond--IWaicj-eP ossessor- in s HisDay of Wonderful Horses and Vast Stud Farms. Deather has called Edmond Blanc and in doing so removed a figure of great stature in French breeding and racing. He was a son of that Francois Blanc, who was principal among the founders of the world renowned Casino at Monte Carlo and from him inherited vast wealth, besides a never ending revenue, which has enabled him to carry on large affairs in more avenues than those of the turf. Nothing was ever said against his probility in racing affairs, but he was tolerated rather than being popular, there being a distinct prejudice against the source of his wealth. His exact age is not immediately available, but he was in the seventies. He was old enough to purchase from the Empress Engenie, after her flight from France and for a trifle compared with its real value, the vast property, where, in the shadow of the fortress of Mont Valerian, he located the great La Fouilleuse establishment, from which in time came so many winners of great races in France, and occasionally in England. He was most widely known outside of France, who gave the until then unheard of price of 37,500 guineas for Flying Fox at the dispersal sale of the Duke of Westministers horses. All of the principal prizes of the French turf fell to him, he winning the Grand Prix de Paris no fewer than seven times, with Nubienne in 1879, Clamart in 1891, Rueil in 1892, Andree in 1S95, Arreau in 1896, Quo Vadis in 1903 and Ajax in 1904, the latter being the only son of his beloved Flying Fox to carry off that great race. Curiosity will await the disposition to be made of his wonderful collection of stallions, brood mares and horses in training.
