BROTHERLY LOVE AND LYKE 1 1 t Prove Too Much for the Others in Jefferson Parks Main Race. i e t Panaman Proves a False Favorite J and Columbia Tenri Wins the c Race at Long Odds. , i nx j. l. dempsey. 3 NEW-ORLEANS, La., December 17. E. R. Brad- leys. Brotherly Love and his skillful jockey Lyke proved a "winning combination and accounted for the ,000 feature purse at one mile this afternoon , In a spirited contest with three others able to run fast. Cock o the itrmst landed in second place . and The Wit third, with the favorite Sea Sinner following. The post of honor was given Sea . Sinner because of his good showing in his previous j races when- War Mask barely got up to beat him , by a nose, with such a good one as Tippity Witehet finishing in his wake. Sea Sinner figured prom- . inently in the early running of todays race, but after going three-quarters he fell back fast and retired completely in the stretch. Lyke wias forced to ride Brotherly Love hard all through the j contest and at one time appeared to be well beaten, , but he roused up just before reaching the stretch and. coming around the others won by a safe margin. Cock o the Roost, which had been the leader j from, the start, just lasted long enough to outstay The -Wit. Fine weather was again the rule here, but the racing jwas ""tfx P"1 pf tnrtl"f-: Tribe being unfortunate with his Sendoffs and several: .of the, fields were dispatched in decidedly straggling order. 1U several instances spirited finishes developed, thiit in the opener between Trantula and Ace being particularly interesting, as the pair i-nn on almost even strides from the start. Kings superior riding skill over MeGraw being the factor in enabling Trantula to win by a nose. Justice Goebel was the winner in the second race from The Portuguese, the latter having been supported with rare confidence. Carline S., which finished third in this, was probably best, but the poor send-off she had ruined her chance. There was a mix-up soon- after the start in the race, causing Anthony to be unseated from Adrianne R. Silver Springs was the next offending choice, he landing in third place, the purse going to The Moor after a hard stretch struggle with the weakly-ridden Sea Court. Panaman was backed confidently in the fourth race and, having somewhat the best of the start, appeared to have the race at his mercy, but he quit so badly in the last eighth that he did not get a portion of the purse, Columbia Teun, one of the extreme outsiders, winning from Lads Love. The latter would have won had he gotten off on even terms. Corson and Jackstraw furnished a spectacular finish in tlje sixth race and again the favorite was downed when the purse went to Corson. Half of the field in this was sent away in poor fashion. Secretary Joe McLennan is hard at work compiling his initial program book for the Fair Grounds and is expected to have it completed early next week. Trainers and jockeys have been requested to submit their applications for riding license, so thnt the committee having these matters in charge can pass on the applicants. All the improvements in. construction have reached completion and the yilaint is available at once for racing purposes. X Coltiletti was fined 5 by the starter for disobedience at the post.
