ACCIDENT AT CUBAN TRACK Jack K. Destroyed After Breaking Leg During Running of Fourth Race. HAVANA. Cuba. December 24. The first serious accident among the thoroughbred colony here at the meeting now in progress at Oriental Park came with the running of the fourth race this afternoon when Jack K.. owned by J. W. Moore, stumbled at the eighth post during the running of that race and broke his leg, but despite the injury continued and finished with the others. Fifty yards beyond the finishing line Domiuick. his rider, was unseated and the horse continued galloping to the three- iiuarters mile post, where he went down. It was found necessary to destroy him. When Jack K. stumbled Punctual, which was following closely, threw his rider. F. Hunt, the horse going down with him. The boy was stunted, but was able to return to the jockey room unaided and rode in the following race. Domiuick. the rider of Jack K.. escaped with a severe shaking up. The race went to Perigour-dine. a first-time starter, paying long odds. The winner was racing forwardly when the accident occurred and gamely held o:t to win first iiuney. Id Garrison was second and Pokey Jane a good third. The Van Winkle three-year-old I.rummel gelding Pie scored the easiest victory cf the afternoon when he led all the way in the fifth and came past the judges in a canter, with Sea Prince beating Mildred, a prohibitive favorite, for second place. An exceedingly close finish marked the opening dash. After I.otta Speed tired from setting a fast pace to the last eighth Mavchoua and Willow Tret- hooked up for a thrilling duel, the outcome of which was in doubt until the last stride, the former getting her nuse in front right at the end. The winner was a first-time starter here and cairied the colors of W. R. Coe. the well-known owner of the good filly Cleopatra. The even money favorite Cavan I!oy hail no trouble annexing the third race, racing Ijidy Hester into defeat at the half-mile post and drawing clear thereafter. The jockeys for the Christmas Handicap, to be inn tomorrow, are: All Aglow, Fletcher; Helen Atkin. Garner: Armistice. Carmody; Mess Kit, McCoy; Lackawanna. Merimee; Herron, Rutwell; War Zone. Hunt: Sweep Clean, Kelsay; Munibo Jumbo, lioyle; Atta Roy II., Kennedy; Rally, Crump, and Cromwell. Weiner. The racing secretary has built around tomorrows big feature an attractive program of six other good races, which will compare favorably with any tf-fereil at any other winter track. The Santa Clans Handicap, with a purse of ,000. is the secondary feature of the card and will bring together a splendid band of fast horses. Conspicuous among the numlier are Herron, Furbelow, Assumption, itlack Prince ami Pometcne. J. Francis was supended by the starter for five days for disobedience at the post in lie fifth race. Acting for .1. O. Keeue. trainer H. Rrowster today sold the three-year-old Lni-Meme and the yearling colt by Luke McLuki Laveganza to R. Sett. v. Krewstor also sold his two-year-old Perhaps to C. Fititaine for a private consideration.
