ABERDEEN TO ST MAURICE Carries Pelican Stable Colors to Victory in Juvenile Feature Billy McLaughlin Runs Fast to toBeat Beat Kirklevington Close CloseFinishes Finishes Delight Crowd HAVRE DE GRACE Mil April 27 The Pelican Stable owned by W H Rowc of Sbrcveport la furnished in St Maurice the winner of the ninth running of the Aberdeen Stakes the 5000 added twoyearold feature that was offered as the stel lar attraction of todays program at the Ilarford County track trackSt St Maurice was lightly considered in a betting way the public showing a preference for Ogarito and Good Times However the son of Zeus was at Ms best today and taking the lead witb the rise of the bairier held command from start to finish although hard pressed by Good Times at the end The latter was going fastest of all but too late to catch the winner which clipped a fifth of a second from the track record for the distance distanceE E F Whitneys Second Thoughts was an added starter and ran well for a firsttime starter finishing third outstaying the favorite Ogaritc which tired after a half mile of strenuous racing witli the winner winnerThe The Redstone Stable furnished another winner this afternoon when Billy McLaughlin defeated Kirklevington The winners victory was clean cut and not of the fluky order He was in clos quarters next to the inner rail in the early stages i and in the stretch run came from behind and finished like a real good colt lie caught KirR levingtqn in the last eighth and at the finish was going away awayA A crowd of generous proportions was present and enjoyed some of the most exciting racing seen in Maryland this spring with hairraising finishes the outstanding feature of the afternoons sport sportJ J E Griffith introduced to Maryland racegoers n good looking threeyearold colt in Citizen which made an auspicious turf debut when he won the opening race in convincing style Citizen is a son of Voter Spumante by Polymclus and was bred in France by John Sanford For some reason unex ¬ plained he did not race last year but if his per ¬ formance of today is any criterion he may develop into a high class racer such as one would expect on the strength of his breeding He rushed to the front after rounding the far turn and displaying a high order of speed easily held his opponents safe for the remainder of the race raceAnother Another winner came from the stable of J E Griffith when Griffwood accounted for the Candi ¬ date Steeplechase That good juniper found no serious opposition particularly after three of the more prominent candidates had met with mishaps Bellringcr fell at the second fence and Kercnsky tumbled over him while James A Sheridan and Peccant went down at the ninth jump jumpBLANKET BLANKET TINISH IN THIRD RACE RACEOne One of the best finishes of the meeting occurred in the third race in which the proverbial blanket would have covered the first four horses as they raced past the judges The specators were on their feet cheering loudly when Brisk Lancelot Trusty and The Belgian II came rushing through the stretch almost abreast and only the judges could separate them at the finish Brisk was awarded first place and the others placed in the order named above The winner race was a sensational per ¬ formance as he was away almost last and forced to close a big gap to overtake the leaders However he accomplished the seemingly impossible task and earned the decision in the final strides Lance ¬ lot led from the start but tired right near the end Trusty ran well but also tired with victory in reach reachThe The running of the sixth race was marked by another thrilling finish and the upset of the hot favorite Star Realm The latter was only beaten by the smallest of margins and would have surely won had he not swerved out in the stretch The winner was Chasseur the Englishbred horse racing forwardly throughout and gamely holding on to a slight advantage when hard pressed by the favorite Until was third right on the heels of the first two twoJack Jack Campbell distributed condition blanks for the stakes to be run at Blue Bonnets These races close May 9 and one of the conditions in all is that starters are to be
