WILKINSONS PAPP IS DEAD American Horse Fails to Recover from Injuries Received Recently in France The sixyearold chestnut horse Papp by Peter Quince Plicbe G by Mazagan owned by W T Wilkinson which was severely injured while run ¬ ning in the Irix Ic Gourzy at Aiitcuil March 27 when he collided with Fatalitas is dead deadPapp Papp was bred in this country and bought by G W Loft at the Saratoga sales as a yearling for 3700 He had a distinguished career as a two yearold He won his first race a maiden affair at Empire City June 18 1017 and followed this up by winning the Whirl and Flash Stakes and another twoyearold overnight race at Empire the United States Hotel Stakes and Sanford Memorial at Saratoga and the Futurity at Kelmotit Park ParkAs As a threeyearold Papp was a disappointment and only won once a minor purse at Saratoga out of nine starts and taking third money five times timesAs As a fouryearold he won three out of fifteen races These were the Equity at Pimllco and the Turf and Field Highweight Handicap and the North Shore Handicap at Belmont Terminal TerminalHis His total earnings on the American turf were 4iG12 4iG12W W T Wilkinson purchased Papp from G W Loft and shipped him to France where he was trained to hurdles He won the Prix do PArmagnac Hurdle Handicap and 1205 in 1910 and was en ¬ tered in most of the important jumping events of 1921 1921There There is an interesting story told as to how Papp obtained his name As everyone knows Mr Loft is one of the kings of the candy business and when Papp was named had a slogan Penny a Pound Profit He took tha initials of this slogan P A P P rind bestowed them upon the un ¬ offending yearing hence the cognomen
