DAM OF THE TETRARCH DIES FOALING LONDON England April 27 The twentyfour yearold chestnut mare Vahrcn by Bona Vista Castania by Hagioscope died in giving birth to a filly by Prince Philip a sixyearold son of Roi Herode Santee by Santoi The foal survives survivesVahrcn Vahrcn was bred by Mr T B Bosville in 1897 and was sent to the stud five years later It was not however until 1908 that she produced a living foal Nicola by Simonton Since then she was prolific and was the dam of many good horses including Coup dOr Coligny and Sabia but the greatest of her progeny is The Tetrarch by Roi Herode HerodeThe The Tetrarch was bred by Mr Edward Kennedy and sold as a yearling at Doncastcr for 5500 to his present owner Major Dermot McCalmont of Mount Stud Thomastown County Kilkenny He ran as a twoyearold only and was unbeaten winning seven races and 55080 Since his re ¬ tirement to the stud The Tetrarch has sired many famous horses and commands a fee of 2500
