ECHO OF TOD SLOANS ENGLISH FALL Tliu death occurred in Ireland recently of The Raft which was the medium of a great gamlde in the Cambridgeshire of 1900 for which he started favorite at 3 to 1 in a field of twentyfour and failed lamentably J C Sullivans Berrill winning euslly from Mr Kphiussis Codoman The last named was ridden by that extraordinarily successful American Tod Sloan and this Newmarket week was destined to be his last here as a jockey for ho had his final mount on tlin concluding day of tln Hoiighton fixture on Frank Gardners Kncombe which defeated by a head Lionel Robinsons Dun donald in the Criterion Nursery the last event on the program Early in the following December it was stated in the Racing Calendar that the stewards had Informed Sloan that he need not again apply for a license to ride The reasons for this decision were that Sloan had accepted the offer of a large present from Mr Gardner and had bet on Codoman for the Cambridgeshire Audax la Horse and JJounU
