FORT ERIE COURSE IS READY Wealth of Racing Material Insures Success for Meeting that Opens July 2 BUFFALO N Y June 23 One week from next Saturday the Niagara Racing Association will in ¬ augurate its first seven days meeting of the year at the course across the river and everything points to one of the most brilliant gatherings in the his ¬ tory of racing at the Fort Erie track trackOne One big feature that goes to make successful rac ¬ ing is plenty of horses and in this respect the asso ¬ ciation has received applications for more stable room than ever before Indications are that when the bugle blows for the first race more horses will be quartered at the course than in any other year of the races at this Canadian track trackDuring During the first sevenday meeting July 2 to July 0 three of the list of six rich fixtures will be decided viz the Fourth of July Stakes the Canadian Derby and the Niagara Stakes At the second meeting August 8 to August 15 the Do ¬ minion Handicap the Iroquois Hotel Stakes and the E W Maginn Memorial Handicap will be run runFor For the above stakes a fine array of horses have been named the list including some of the best thoroughbreds now in training In the Cana ¬ dian Dei by some twentyone have been nominated This race this year for the first time in its history is for threeyearolds bred in Canada The cream of the hotnebreds have been named and everything points to a big field and an open race It is the consensus of opinion that in changing tbe conditions of the Derby and making only Canadianbred horses eligible for the stakes the management has made a wise move for this insures a big fieM and an open contest where heretofore one or two good three yearolds have scared away the rest of the nomina ¬ tions and as a result the field was small smallGarbed Garbed in fresh coats of paint the entire Fort Erie plant now looks like a new institution Work on improvements lias been going on for several weeks past until the course has taken on a new appearance appearanceThe The track itself is ready for the reception of horses After weeks of hard work the track super ¬ intendent has got the course in fine condition and today it is as smooth and level almost as a billiard table ix There J already a large colony of horses quar ¬ tered at the track and from now on the arrivals daily will be large ones Not a few owners will ship direct to Fort Erie to rest up for the coming meeting When the day for the opening of the meeting arrives all sections of this country will be represented in the stable lists
