HAMILTON OPENS TODAY Inaugural Program Featured by Hamilton Derby No Scarcity of Horses or Riders HAMILTON Ont June 23 Racing at Hamilton will be ushered in tomorrow afternoon with the running of the Hamilton Derby one of the annual fixtures of the association A field of eight has been named to go the mile and a quarter for n stake of 5000 added The field is one of the best in the threeyearold line that has been brought together this year on the Canadian circuit circuitThat That there will be no scarcity of horses or riding material at the coming meeting was amply illustrated this morning when the special race trains from Ottawa arrived and swelled the ranks of those already quartered here to overflowing Many new performers to the Canadian circuit have arrived mainly from New York and Kentucky and with tbe addition of the present material on hand should more than be productive of spirited racing racingMany Many new improvements have been completed at the course and everything has been freshened up A new bleachers at the far end of the mutuel pavilion has been erected which should accommo ¬ date the overflow of the grandstand and lawn lawnThe The track which is in splendid condition has been heavily drenched by water by hose lines each day and is faster than it 1ms been for some time timeThe The sport of steeplechasing will be revived and a race through the field will be carded daily dailyAlbert Albert Simons arrived with a small string of 1orses from New York some of which are the property of S A Clopton and H P Whitney WhitneyJockey Jockey J Mooney arrived this morning and will remain for the remainder of the season seasonSam Sam Spencer in charge of the mutuels has fifty seven cashiers and thirtyeight sellers a greater number than ever before
