CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Tangiers, one of the handsomest horses in Eng land and a fine stayer, lias broken down and goes to the stud. He is five years old and is owned by Sir William Nelson, and is by Cylgad Orange Girl, by William the Fourth. English racing critics do not fancy the "seat and style" of Hector Gray, the young New Zealand jockey, who is riding winners. It may be recalled that the "seat and style" of Tod Sloan did not suit the same critics or their predecessors. There is a good Milkmaid on the other side. She is in the St. Leger this year, is three years old, by Dairy Bridge Miss Tillie, and is owned by Lord Jersey. Far better derivation for this than the Ross mares name, which was just tacked on. In South Africa this year seventy-six yearlings were sold at public sale at an average price of ,454, the highest price being ,125 for a coil by Brown Ronald Very Sweet. In 1920 the average for forty yearlings was 1921.sh02 wltn a Mgh mars of ,750.
