BETTING CHECK LEGAL RULING An important decision under the English gaming act was recently given in the Court of Kings Ficneh of London. England, by Justice McCardie. The action was that of Maskell vs. Hill, and it arose out of a dispute concerning betting transactions. The plaintiff. .1. T. Maskell of Chadwell Heath, Essex, claimed against Joseph Hill of High Street, Stratford, to recover ,000, the amount of checks paid by defendant as plaintiffs agent in respect of betting losses. Justice McCardie held that the money was not recoverable, as the gaming act only applied to checks paid to a principal with Avhom a bet was made.
