H. G. BEDW ELLS DOUBTFUL LICENSE The Maryland State Racing Commission last Friday granted II. G. Redwell a license as a trainer, but before doing so adopted, by a vote of 2 to 1, a resolution the effect of which will make the license or any other license granted by the commission of doubtful value. The resolution, which was offered by commissioner J. Siienccr, and voted for by James A. Lataue. the chairman, recites that the attorney 1 general had made a ruling defining the powers of the commission in granting licenses, and that licenses granted by the commission are not to bis considered a mandate to the race track managers; 1 hat if any license should be rejected by the track managers the racing commission will not interfere in any action so taken by the tracks. The effect of the resolution, which commissioner Timaiius opposed, is to notify the mniiigers of limlico and Laurel, who have been opposing the licensing of Redwell as a trainer and of Carroll II. Shilling as a jockey, that if they refuse to permit them to enter 011 the race tracks the racing commission will not back up the licenses. C. 1. Benson, counsel for Redwell, protested vigorously and pointed out to the commission Unit the resolution would have the e.ftect ojf encouraging the track managers to reject the licenses of the racing commission.
