PICKWICK was restrained behind the leaders in the t-arly running and moved up gamely on the stretch turn, but could not quite get up in the linal drive. SCOTCH VERDICT was a forward contender for the entire race and held on gamely at the end. PADUA raced in close quarters next to the inner rail all the way and was weakly ridden. RHINESTONE began in a tangle, hut had a clear course all the way and closed a big gap gamely. XOIIANT was forced wide on the last turn, but finished fastest of all. ACTRESS ran well, but tired in the last eighth. TURNABOUT was away poorly and ran a creditable race. CELTIC LASS had a rough race.
