HERMIT AND MARKSMAN SALES MATES At the sale of Blenkirons yearlings, held-by Tattersall at Middle Park, Eltham, Saturday, June 17, 1S63, lot 26 was a chestnut colt by Newminster -Seclusion, loaled on March 25. and the then Henry Chaplin purchased him for ,000. Lot 27, a-chest-iiut colt by Dundee Shot, was next bought, by James Merry for ,000. Nearly two years afterward these two former sales mates met in the Epsom Derby, then being known as Hermit and Marksman, and the first named beat the other by a neck after a sensational race.
