. SPORTING HORSE OF THE WORLD The thoroughbred horse is the sporting horse of the world. The breed was established for racing and has been maintained for that purpose in England and other countries since the days of Charles II., who was restored to the throne in 1000. Certain strains have at times thrown out "sports" Unit have shown otiier qualities, which were intensified and established by clever breeders, who established saddlers, hunters, coachers and the trotter, Messenger being the foundation stone in the inheritance of the last-named. These "sports" came from the thoroughbred family before the breed was thoroughly established nnd carried witli them the characteristics of an ancestor whose form or way of going came to the surface after a lapse of years. The day, however, has gone- by when a cross ot thoroughbred blood can improve any of these families unless it Is buried by top crosses of the breed with which it is blended.
