BIG CROWD AT DEVONSHIRE Inaugural Days Racing Witnessed by 15,000 People Main Race to Adonis. WINDSOR. Out., August 27. Despite the threatening skies about race time and a slight sprinkling of rain late in the afternoon a crowd of almost fifteen thousand turned out to witness the opening days sport at Devonshire Park, where the second and final meeting of 1021. under the auspices of the Western Racing Association, was held. The exceedingly fast time recorded during the afternoon testified to the excellent condition of the track. Under skillful handling by jockey C. Lang J. S. Wards Adonis captured the Windsor Handicap, which served as the feature of the inaugural program. It was only after a spirited stretch struggle, however, that he succeeded In heading Irish Kiss, which appeared all over an easy winner at the turn for home. Morris rushed his mount into the lead at the far turn, but probably made his move a trifle too soon. However, it was a sterling performance for the Uncle three-year-old, for he reduced the track record for one mile when he lowered the colors of the Suunyland Stables star c iiipaigner. Two other new records were established when J. J. Herts: Fifty Fifty graduated from the maiden two-year-old ranks in most decisive manner in the second and lowered the five and a half furlong mark to 1:05 The Toronto-owned Diana set the throe-quarters mile record at 1:11 when she annexed the third race in runaway fashion. Then-is some doubt about the feat credited to the MeGcc filly, as several reputable horsemen made the time 1:1". claiming that the flag man was slow in dropping the flag. The haltermen commenced activity early. Nugent Brothers claimd Dixie Carroll on of the fourth race for ,500. After the running of the sixth Ruby went to the stable of J. Umensetter for ,000. For disobedience while at the post jockey Gant-uer was fined 0.00 and I.. Morris got a throe-days suspension for the same reason. For cutthjy across- in front of hiss field with Midnight ..Sun during the running of the sixth race jockey Riehcreek was set down for three days by the stewards.
