OPENING DAY AT WOODBINE Exterminator and Other Stars in Toronto Autumn Cup, the Big Inaugural Feature. TORONTO, Ont., September 23. The autumn meeting of the Toronto Jockey Club, which is scheduled to begin at the -Woodbine tomorrow, promises to eclipse in point of importance any meeting held at this famous old racing ground in years past. Every stall on the grounds is occupied and among the horses from the metropolitan circuit which will race here is the great cup winner Exterminator. The track is in perfect condition and with promise of. pleasant weather a record breaking attendance is looked for. The program is a high-class one. The condition of five of the seven races call for distances of one mile or farther, with three stake races as feature attractions, the Woodbine Autumn Steeplechase, over the two-mile course, witii ,000 added; the Maple Leaf Stakes, at one mile and a sixteenth, ,000 added, and the Toronto Autumn Cup, a handicap at a mile and a quarter, to which is added ,500. A field of eleven, including Exterminator, Boniface, My Dear and Registrar, is named to go to the post in the Toronto Autumn Cup. Exterminator is asked to carry the heavy impost of 137 pounds, which is certainly some task for even this sturdy racer. The horses will be called to the post for the first race at 2 oclock. MESSRS. DAVIES FINE STUD FARM. The Messrs. Davies, who race under the nom de course of the Thorncliffe Stable, have a select band of brood mares on their farm, which is located adjacent to the Thorncliffe race track. There are fifteen matrons at their stock farm, among them Frolic, Fair Annual, Sky Rocket, Gold Bud, Southern Maid, Loupauia and Miss Gayle. All of these mares have weanlings at their sides by Calgary. Seven of them arc colts. Last spring the Davies purchased a sister to Miss Joy and she will be bred next spring to First Sight. They have only four yearlings for next years racing, one by Nealon Southern Maid, the other three being by First Sight. Three of this band are colts. Willis Sharpe Kilmer is here to see his great longdistance gelding, Exterminator, race. Exterminator has two engagements here, the Toronto Autumn Cup at one" mile and a quarter, and the Ontario Jockey Club Cup at two miles and a quarter. Each race has ,500 added. W. Kelsay will have the mount on Exterminator in both of these races. Henry McDaniel is here with the J. K. L. Ross stable. The string numbers twenty-one. Frank J. Bryan, who will act as one of the . stewards and handicapper here, arrived today from New York. With the exception of three or four, the jumpers racing at Woodbine will be shipped to Laurel at the conclusion of this meeting. This consignment will consist of about four carloads. Jockey OConnor, who was restored to full privileges a few days ago, has joined the stable of W. G. Wilson. There is a big band of horses here to draw from and the fields during the meeting should be large. M. Mahoney was an arrival from Ottawa and will be in charge of the mutuel department.
