AWNING took the lead at once and, setting a fast pace, only gave way right at the end. PROMENADE raced next to the rail all the way and made a game finish. THUNDERCLAP followed DONNACONA under restraint in the early running, then took the lead when called on after entering the stretch and maintained his advantage under skillful riding. DONNACONA set a fast early pace and, saving ground on the turns, outstayed AUDACIOUS for second place. AUDACIOUS was under a choking pull in the early running and moved up menacingly on the last turn, but lost considerable ground when entering the stretch, then could not get up in a game finish. DIOMEDES, hard ridden, closed up fast through the stretch and was rapidly wenring the winner down. ESC A RPOLETTE easily passed LA KROSS in the stretch. The latter set a fast pace and raced ROUTLEDGK into defeat in tlie first hair mile, but was tiring slightly at the end. ROUTLEDGE raced in closest pursuit to the last eighth and tired.
