Bulls Peter Quince colt. Mustard Seed. He strode unfrcely in some of his races, but was a bulldog in most and one of the sort which seemed Instinctively to want to beat his opiK.iients. His erratic racing was recently explained by Jack Goldsborough. who said that the colt was "not right and went sore" all summer. Just now Mustard Seed is in winter ouar-• ters at Gravesend and a giant. He has grown all about and is one of the best looking and most massive young horses in the East. "Much improved and as fast as anybodys horse." was Mr. Goldsborotighs terse comment. Goldsborough bought him at Sara-. toga in 1920 for ,500. Mustard Seed had a fairly busy time with eleven 1921 races and but two victories. His second in Jamaicas mud was as good as his best. The going suited him and in it he beat Balance, Modo. Sweep By and Missionary decisively. Next, in the Ju-, venile. be was third among the years cracks aud coming at the end. The colt was favorite for the Great American. It was a melee out of which Brooinster and Toil, away well, ran one-two and Olympus was best and third. Mustard Seed, away slowly, had no chance. Then he was second and third at Empire City. His third was in the East View, whieli Runstar won, but was disqualified for interfering with Kai-Sang. Again Mustard Seed was off slowly and hampered, and those in the rear usually are. The colt had no luck at Saratoga. He was "not himself." says Goldsborough. Back to New York Mustard Seed won like a racing gentleman in an Aqueduct purse with a good band behind him, the five-eighths in :59. The colt closed the year with a defeat by Missionary in Jamaicas Benisen Handicap. He was just nipped 011 the post. Just then Missionary was smart turf goods, Mustard Seed is likely to excel in the early spriuts of the Metropolitan racing season. Here is his racing display of last year: Race. Track. Wt. Rider.
