Match l4*.— Eight two-year-olds, six colts and two fillies, all foaled in Cuba, have lieen named in the eontest for the distinction of ariaaiag the XHUXX Cuban Produce Stakes, at a half-mile, which will be the bright and particular feature of tomorrows program. The running of this laaaartaal Stake event has been looked forward to eagerly by tub.in admirers of thoroughbred horses and e-pecially those who take commendable pride in the thoroughbred piodnee of the island republic. Daniel to ruu in •the Derby. Lighter was heavily supported at a short price, but could do no Itetter than third, beaten a head for second place by juesada. Lidy Astor. after following the leaders to Hie stretch turn, moved up on the outside with a rush in the final eighth and won going away by a length and a half. Lighter was a bit slow to jot going and in the stretch run suffered when the winner bore over to the inside and will have to run a better race- than this a flernoons. however, to win the Derby. The general opinion among horsemen after todays race- was that Harry Payne Whitneys Cherry Tree will be a hard horse to beat in next Sundays big race provided he meets with no mishaps in the meant ime. The first race furnished a driving finish, with Douglas Pairbaaka, which came from behind in the stretch, getting ap in the- final strides to beat Jessica F. by a head. The latter made the pace, but tired. Fitz-Kooclle proed an easy winner in tae second when he led Mumbo J umbo by a little- over a length at the finish.
