i i VIOLINIST DERBY CANDIDATE i Cartoonist Fishers Colt Which Showed Spotty i Quality in 1921 Racing. Cartoonist H. C. Fixbers colt Violinist. whi h i eost him a pietty penny when in-quired from .lolin K. Madden after his first race last spring »t t Belmont Park, was a spotty sort of two-year old. He ran some biti grade races and some poor one-. The best was his third effort, in which he heat t Relax. Knot Grass. Modo and company at Aqueduct t and his lust race in t lie mud at Latonia in whicn i he was expected to bent and did beat Fair lhan-tom, - .lohn Finn, Tom Hare Jr., Yoshimi and i Mountjoy in fine style. These two races and his second essay— the first t after Mr. Fisher liought hi in — was a victory before • a fair hand only at Itelmont Park. He was boiijjit t after a good second in his first attempt at raeing ; to Modo. In all Violinist raced fourteen times. was unplaced in eight, won three and earned in i racing about a sixth of hi cost. In the Tremont .Stakes at Aqueduct Violinist was fourth to Olympus, . Mustard Seed and William A. This was :t i ood race and in his next he was third behind Little Chief and Calamity Jane, which, as they could, , catlike at the post as both were, ran away from i him early. The colt was not himself at Saratoga and ran , unplaced in six races there. His effort, however, in the Cnited Stales Hotel Stakes was pretty good. So was his Hopeful try. In September Violinist t came again to Belmont Iark. the footing of which , he seemed to fancy, and ran a fine race and was , just beaten in the last stride by that smart filly • Mary Patricia. Mary Patricia proved her smartness later by a fast race at Empire. . Then Violinist went back to his old Kentucky home and after one race, in which he ran as if he . was jaded, wound up the year with perhaps his . best race against some of the best two-year-olds . at Latonia. The Fisher colt will be a candidate for the Derby and Preakness without doubt The racing of Violinist during the year of 1921 is shown in the table below: Race. Track. Wt. Riiler. Hist. Time. Fin.
