In the stable or Montfort Jones, the we-tern oil magnate and one of the best of American turfmen, are five youngsters, now three years old. of the Itest class, probably in this order of merit: Mis Joy. Pegasus. Fair Phantom, St. Henry and Roek- minister. The latter two were named for the Kentucky Derby. Pegasus, considered second in quality to Miss Joy. was -o classed by the Kentucky ha n I i cappers last autumn. The colt was not H nimble of foot as Miss Joy and Fair Phantom, and won but ,744 and two af his ten races, but raced with promise and is framed on lines of suggested improvement. Pegasus began in the summer at L-itonia and after a defeat by Rilly Brush and Hephaistos in a maiden nice for which he ami his stablemate. Rut in the Grab Rag race the Cdden .Maxim colt showed speed, courage and general racing quality and beat Surf Rider. Pillory. Runstar. Kai-Sang and William A., each gave him eight pounds and a licking. Saratoga over, the Jones stable went to its favorite racing ground — Kentucky— -and in a purse Pegasus was eased up to let his associate Back- minister win.
