IN EUROPE AFTER HORSES Major Leonard Seeking Arabs from the Other Side for Breeding BreedingMajor Major Henry Leonard retired from the United States Army member of the Colorado State Racing Commission and identified with the breeding activities of the United States Remount Service has gone to Europe on an extensive horsepurchasing mission He was accompanied by W R Brown of Berlin N H breeder and importer of Ara ¬ bian horses and patron of the annual endur ¬ ance test for riding horses and Deering Davis of Colorado Springs Col They will proceed to Crabbet Park Sussex England where they will look over Arab horses with the idea of purchasing for Mr Brown BrownThey They next go to Pau and Tarbes where they will examine the threeyearold Anglo Arabs which are collected for examination and possible purchase by the French govern ¬ ment about the end of April There they expect to make some purchases for Mr Brown BrownFrom From France they will go to Germany thence to Austria Hungary and Czecho ¬ slovakia with the idea in view of securing such highclass thoroughbred mares as may be available These are to be purchased for Major Leonard and friends of his in Colo ¬ rado Major Leonard also will endeavor to buy about ten thoroughbred stallions for the Remount Service At the conclusion of this trip they will return to England and there look about for thoroughbred stallions and mares maresThoroughbred Thoroughbred horse breeding in Colorado is having considerable impetus The Remount Service has sent to that state the stallions Defense by Star Shoot Dark Friar by Sweep Ashton by Electioneer Sands of Time by Beach Sand son of Rock Sand King Plaudit by Plaudit and Jack Stewart by Valens These stallions are being bred to thoroughbred mares and to highclass blood mares The purpose is to revive racing of a better class as well as to stimulate the breeding of hunters polo ponies and highclass cow ponies Bryant Turner of the Trinchera Ranch who owns the famous little racer Booger Red by Rancocas and who is the agent for Defense is one of those who are foremost in this activity
