JUDGE NELSON IN CHICAGO Commends Tijuana Racing Feature and Praises the Speedy Baldwin Colt Lantados Judge Francis Nelson en route to his home in Canada via Chicago and Nev York after a long term of service as presiding judge of the recently closed Tijuana meeting stopped in Chicago for a few hours yesterday He was the picture of good health and among other things quite hopeful of good results to grow out of the proposed betless meeting at Tanforan next winter Concerning some of his Tijuana impressions he said On the way home from what I think was a record meeting Just four fewer than a thousand races with about ten thousand starters Mishaps miraculously few the tem ¬ porary laying up of jockey Huntamer being the only one approaching seriousness The public support was maintained with enthusi ¬ asm attendance on the one hundred and thirtieth day falling only a little short of Coffroth Handicap day and being the third largest of the meeting The last days crowd saw seven races over distances from a mile up to a mile and threequarters Long dis ¬ tance racing was encouraged throughout One period of about a week saw five races at a mile and an eighth one at a mile and threesixteenths one at a mile and a half one at a mile and threequarters and two at two miles Two races at two miles on con ¬ secutive days provided a spectacle quite new to the present generation of racegoers racegoersAn An interesting development of the meet ¬ ing was the appearance of a horse that may be a real champion and one to revive the glories of the line of Lexington This was the beautiful Lantados a product of the famous Santa Anita Rancho He was bred by Miss Ariita Baldwin who also has sent to trainer Jim Curl his threeyearold brother Cruzerne Lantados won both his starts with consummate ease One was on a very muddy track so that lie has one quali ¬ fication of a good horse ability to run on any footing
