BRADLEY COLTS SURPR1SERS Copy the Example of Black Serv ¬ ant and Behave Yourself Busy American and Bet Mosie MosieFirst First and Second in the Blue BlueGrass Grass Stakes LEXINGTON Ky May 6 Will history repeat itself was a question frequently asked following the running of the Blue Grass Stakes in which the Idle Hour Stock Farm E R Bradley representatives Busy American and Bet Mosie finished first and second Last year in this same stake race the Bradley pair Black Servant and Behavo Yourself finished first and second and sub ¬ sequently went on to win the Kentucky Derby Behave Yourself on that occasion beating his stablemate out outThe The Blue Grass Stakes is a mile and an eighth dash on this occasion having a net value to the winner of 3130 It annually brings to the post the cream of the western threeyearold brigade eligible to the Ken ¬ tucky Derby and is intended as a prelimi ¬ nary to the big fixture It has in several previous years served as a fairly reliable in ¬ dex to the probable outcome of the Louis ¬ ville event eventFour Four colts two representing the Bradley interests and Startle a filly made up todays field and furnished a thrilling combat for the first mile and a sixteenth Then Busy American a maiden took command and held the fastcoming Bet Mosie safe in the final rush rushIn In the earlier runing particularly after a half mile had been covered the Bradley twain were seemingly hopelessly done Busy American had been prominent early but had dropped back and Bet Mosie was far back and completely out of it The Hewitt filly and Surf Rider were in the van with John Finn moving up rapidly and just as the top of the hill was reached the trio were on even terms but Startle soon shook off Surf Rider and John Finn and entered the stretch with a clear lead albeit having come ex ¬ tremely wide but in doing so having secured firmer footing Surf Rider was cracking fast and John Finn after a brief struggle gave way too leaving Startle seemingly an easy winner but suddenly Busy American got busy and Bet Mosie which had saved much ground also moved up menacingly Startle roused to Busy Americans challenge but it was unavailing and Busy American had little trouble in heading her Bet Mosie also rushed up in game style and succeeded in out ¬ staying the filly by a scant head for second place John Finn followed the trio and Surf Rider completely fell out of contention him ¬ self after going a mile mileWEATHER WEATHER CONDITIONS IMPROVE IMPROVEWhat What promised to be disagreeable racing conditions for the afternoon suddenly re ¬ verted to pleasant in the matter of weather and it contributed to bringing out the full racing strength here The track continued heavy in spite of the continuous labors of the big force of track men menA A handicap at a mile and a sixteenth served as a secondary feature and this wont by Woodtrap in easy style enabled John McPherson to saddle his second winner Merchant carrying his own colors assist ¬ ing in the double Woodtrap was a pro ¬ nounced favorite but Bettina and Kinburn were also well thought of Gourmands con ¬ nections also were confident of success Kin burn was raced into exhaustion with Wood trap his nearest pursuer and when Kinburn began lagging Woodtrap moved up with a rush and it was only a hand gallop for him in the stretch Gourmand finished fast and overhauled Kinburn for second place placeJohnson Johnson N Camdens Mojave a victim In his initial race when Garner was unseated from him showed himself to be the good colt that he is considered by winning in easy style from some good ones that started in the second race He was a big favorite and dashing into the lead soon after the start won without trouble troublePoppye Poppye and Ailsie Vernor fought It out stubbornly in the sixth race In which a dozen twoyearolds met the Headley colt winning in the last strides Little Sallie was probably best here but the start found her swerving out losing ground groundThe The closing number went to Walnut Hall which outstayed Marse John after a mild stretch drive driveLouisville Louisville sent over an extensive delega ¬ tion to witness the racing this afternoon They tonightJ returned to the Falls City tonight J H Louchheims string in charge ot Dan Clark was shipped to Jamaica this morn ¬ ing Mr Louchheim who has been here wit ¬ nessing the racing for several days returned to Philadelphia
