LATONiAS 50000 STAKE STAKEDefinitely Definitely Decided to Run This Special Race Morvich a Sure Starter NEW YORK N T May 23 It has now been definitely decided that the J50000 special raco for threeyearolds at Latonia will be run Colonel M J Wlnn general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club an ¬ nounced early in the spring that tho Ken ¬ tucky Jockey Club would offer a 50000 stake to be contested for by the winner of the Kentucky Derby and the winner of the Preakness PreaknessIt It was decided to offer this stake after regret had been expressed In all quarters that the Derby and the Prcakness were to be run on the samo day The offer was a liberal one and was welcomed by owners generally even though there were some who feared that such a race might conflict with the Belmont Stakes to bo run on June 10 while tho date of the special waa set for June 17 17After After R T Wilson and his trainer Thomas J Healcy had declined to send Pillory their winner of the Preakness to Latonia to com ¬ pete with Morvich winner of the Derby it was taken for granted that the Kentucky Jockey Club would give up the stake and for a little wnile it was thought to be off offColonel Colonel Winn arrived in New York Mon ¬ day however to attend an important busi ¬ ness meeting and before noon had made all arrangements to have the race at Latonia Benjamin Block had already agreed to send Morvich and Colonel Winn said that he would offer the stake if Harry Payne Whit ¬ ney would agree to send a horse to run In it no matter whether any other horses from the East were sent to Kentucky to race for the 50000 prize or not James Rowe was com ¬ municated with and agreed to enter at least one of the Whitney horses horsesThe The date set for the race Is June 24 which is just a week ahead of the Latonia Derby the mile and a half race for threeyearolds which is to be run on Saturday July 1 Mr Block has already declared his intention of sending Morvich to start in the Latonia Derby DerbyThe The 50000 Special will be at a mile and a quarter at weight for age Any threeyear old will be eligible with an entrance fee of 25 and 500 to start The Lexington Stable no doubt will have cither Lucky Hour or My Play ready to race by June 24 and possibly both of them E R Bradley also is expected to enter Bet Mosle which finished second In the Derby It seems probable that John Sanfords Snob II will be nominated for the race although it is not certain that Mr Sanford will consent to have his colt sent to Kentucky However his eligibility for this 50000 stake would add materially to his value to any prospective purchaser
