DELIGHTS MOTHER AND SON BY J L DEMPSEY DEMPSEYLOUISVILLE LOUISVILLE Ky May 26 One of the most pleasing incidents of todays racing at Churchill Downs was the graduation from the maiden ranks of jockey H Red Stutts while his mother who made the jour ¬ ney here from her home in Hot Springs Ark to see him ride looked on It was hard to tell which was the most pleased the jockey or his parent but neither made any effort to conceal their joy The little fellow was given a big ovation when he came back to the judges stand to weigh out after scoring on Countess and as he walked back to the jockeys quarters it was renewed renewedAlthough Although Stutts who is under contract to Montfort Jones has been riding for a year his mother had never seen him in the saddle and she came here last Monday to witness him in action Until that time he did not have a city riding license but trainer Kay Spence gladly fixed him up in this respect so he could ride in front of his mother His first mount with her looking on was Billy Starr and he finished third with him himIll Ill win one before she goes home he told Bob Gailor agent for the Montfort Jones stable so hustle me up some mounts with a chance to get down in front frontHe He was not long in making good and he is indebted to Gailor for tlje pleasure afforded both him and his mother as he obtained the mount on Countess for him
