ONE OF AMERICA S MOST FAMOUS RA CES TO BE DECIDED DECIDEDAT AT BELMONT PARK TODAY SMALL BUT CRACK CRACKFIELD FIELD TO STRIVE FOR THE f 50000 PRIZE On Saturday May 13 Kentucky was the center of attraction for lovers of the horse and racing the country over That was Konutcky Derby day The incidents of that memorable occasion are still fresh in mind Today the eyes of the turf world will be turned to the East to Beimont Park where the 50000 Belmcnt Stakes will be run for the fiftyfourth time timeW W S Vosburgh the official handicapper of the Jockey Club of whom no living authority on matters pertaining to the American turf is more competent to write of the Beimont Stakes recently contributed a history of that famous race and the same was published in installments in tho Daily Racing Form FormIn In part Mr Vosburgh says If age tradition and the celebrity of its winners entitle a race to the dignity of a classic nobody will dispute the claim for the Beimont Stakes It bears the same relation to American racing which the Epsom Derby does in England It dates from 1867 and is the oldest in continuity of American sweepstakes or any on this continent with the exception of the Kings Plate at Toronto It is our greatest test for threeyearolds It has been won by more highclass colts and fillies than any other event Even the colts which finished second were of the most distinguished merit meritThe The Beimont Stakes has produced more great sires among its winners than any other American sweepstakes for threeyearolds The Beimont is the index to class It is also the standard for breeding It is beyond the distance of a mere sprinter The best colt as a rule wins and he is usually the colt of the year Such is the great race which will be run today at Beimont Park and be witnessed by a crowd which will even tax the capacity of the commodious home of the Westchester Racing Association AssociationWith With the greatly increased value of the Beimont this year in order to keep pace with the Kentcky Derby and Preakness Stakes it is only right and proper that all the foremost three yearolds of 1922 are among the eligibles for this historical race with the notable exception of the undefeated Morvich The field for todays race is small but it scintilatcs with the superb quality of those so named The 585000 Snob II is one of the five overnight acceptances and he undoubtedly will rule favorite It is no easy task assigned the Frenchbred colt with such as Pillory Hea Ray Jay and Letterman as his rivals and there are not a few who believe that Admiral Cary Graysons colt Hea will prove a tough customer for the Cosden recent costly purchase Be that as it may the prospects are decidedly bright for a wonderful race and another bright page added to the history of this longestablished fixture The probable starters and other details follow Horse Horsesnob Weight Jockey Owner OwnerJ Trainer snob H 126 C Kummer J S Cosden W Garth Hea 12G IV Keogh
