veteran Mlnto II whoso return to racing came this spring after a long retirement earned hla first purse of the meeting when ho ac ¬ counted for the mile handicap having a value of 2200 and featuring an interesting card Following him closely and extended to the limit under terrific persuasion came Dr Clark and Parader noses separating the pair at the finish The time of the race pair at the finish The time of the race 1 37 marked the fastest mile so far at this meeting meetingDr Dr Clark under an energetic ride by Con ¬ nelly caused the Goldblatt representative to set a great pace in the early running but ho was pressed closely by Parader with Minto II close to the pair under restraint Dr Clark and Parader continued striving to shake each other oft when reaching the stretch turn but here Mlnto II made his challenge and found no great difficulty in heading the leaders and once in command ho held sway for the rest of the race In the final drive Dr Clark proved the gamer and beat Parader for second place The disappointment in the race was Bit of White This good daughter of Sunstar Dreamy II was held in high regard by her owner E R Bradley and his large following but she raced in ordinary fashion throughout Barrett her rider eased her up when going to the first turn and she never figured prominently afterward afterwardSURPRISINGLY SURPRISINGLY LAKGE CROWD CROWDTodays Todays weather was of the delightful variety and the improvement in the racing offered was a contributing factor in bring nig out a surprisingly large attendance The racing also showed betterment there being more snap to the different daslies Finishes were close and hard fought Speculation con ¬ tinued heavy and as favorites and second choices were outstanding contenders in nearly all the races the public fared well wellThe The first disqualification of the present meeting came in the fourth race a mile and sixteenth dash when Tomahoi was displaced out of second place after having furnished a spectacular duel to nose Red VVingfield out of that position The sufferer by Toma hois fouling was Chacolet the early leader Tomahoi was under a hard drive when ho ranged alongside of Chacolet and interfered with her Red Wingfield was also a sufferer to some extent by crowding in the stretch and it probably was responsible for his failure to outstay Tomahoi Chacolet land ¬ ing fourth enabled her to benefit by third money The race was won by Light Rose In E F Simms colors It was the first start of a representative from that stable here at this meeting and the victory was a popular one oneThe The opener brought to the post the limit number of starters a band of maiden three yearolds and over It resulted in a vic ¬ tory for Spats grouped with others in the field Cautious finishing second and Glen ¬ garry third Cautious had shown the most early speed and seemed in a fair way to earn the purse until she began swerving out and it enabled Spats to wear her down in the last seventy
