TURF CAREER OF M. BOUSSAC Owner of French Derby Winner Only Registered Colors in 1919 His Successes. PARIS, France, June 30. M. Boussac, the owner of Ramus, which won tho French, j Derby Juno 11, is a comparative newcomer to the turf, his colors having been registered as recently as 1919. He own3 a factory at Chateauroux, in the Indre department of France, and during the war amassed a fortune by supplying the linen and canvas furnishings for military aeroplanes. When he decided to establish a racing stable he had the good fortune to become iissociated with Stern, whose advice in th-i purchase of bloodstock has, of course, been invaluable. During the past three years M. Boussac has had numerous successes, both on the flat and under steeplechasing rules. To win the Derby after such a brief racing career, however, constitutes a record, as the statistics testify. The history of Stern, who rode the winner, I is also remarkable, a3 ho has been before the French racing public as a prominent jockey for nearly a quarter of a century- His record for riding Derby winners is prob- , ably without a parallel. It was exactly twenty-one years on Sunday since he won j his first Derby on the late M. Edmond ! Blancs Saxon. In the intervening years he rode Ajax, Quintette, Dagor, Sardanapalo and Teddy, so that when he landed Ramus home a sale winner on Sunday he registered his seventh Derby success. Latterly Stern has combined training with riding, and, as he owns a few horses himself, he fills the triple role of owner, trainer and jockey, and so far ha3 made a pretty good job of iL He has a stable full of useful horses, including an important string of two-year-olds, and is likely to prove a force to bo reckoned with on the French turf for years to come.
