MARVELOUS ASCOT CUP RACE The race for the Ascot Gold Cup of this year was quite remarkable in the manner in which it was run. Despite its long and trying distance of two and a half miles it had ten starters, good race horses one and all. Yutoi was the favorite, but when it came to the running the 20 to 1 Flamboyant, a fast horse as well as a stayer, soon went to the front and set such an extraordinary pace, the distance considered, that only the stouthearted Golden Myth was able to stand it He finally got up to defeat Flamboyant by three-quarters of a length in the record time of 4:17. This was five seconds faster than the previous best record of 4 :22, made in 1921 in the same race by Periosteum. Golden Myth had up 126 pounds in this marvellous performance. The distance is one seldom run in this country and the American record is 4:24A, made by Kyrat at Newport, Ky., November 18, 1899, with tho light impost of eighty-eight pounds on his back.
