OVER 10,000 AT CLEVELAND Immense Crowd Taxes Capacity of Maple Heights Park Feature to Croupier. CLEVELAND, Ohio, July 22.The half-holiday crowd swelled the attendance to fully ten thousand here this afternoon, which greatly overtaxed the accommodations of the plant. The track was at its best and the weather decidedly hot and sultry. After being outpaced by Cap Rock and Murray to the stretch H. Keisels Croupier took command and scored a rather easy victory in the ?1,500 Cleveland Day Handicap, which featured the card at Maple Heights Park this afternoon. At the end Croupier led Louis A. by a head, while Cap Rock, although tiring rapidly, outgamed Murray in the closing strides. The performance of Croupier was all the more meritorious considering the fact that he covered the one and an eighth miles in 1 :51, which marked a new record for this course. Closing gamely through the stretch Margaret Ware upset the calculations of the form followers when she outstayed High Tea, the favorite, in the initial dash. Promising Tom and Happy Buxton predominated in the running during the second race. After entering the stretch Promising Tom drew away decisively. Al Plack saddled his first winner at this meeting when Marmite easily took the measure of some shifty sprinters in the third after leading throughout. Incidentally the Sweep mare reduced the track record for the three-quarters to 1:12. Winding Through and Theo contested the leadership closely for the entire way in the fourth, the former winning in a driving finish after carrying Theo wide all through the stretch. Although well outrun by his opponents until the last quarter Serbian gained steadily and scored by a length from Cacambo and Madge F. in the sixth race.
