AN ADMIRABLE SELECTION Judge Joe Murphy to Guide the New Orleans Fair Grounds Racing. NEW ORLEANS, La., August 17. Joseph A. Murphy has been named presiding steward at a meeting of the board of directors of the Fair Grounds Business Mens Racing Association. John Dymond, president of the association, announced Tuesday that he will visit New-York and Kentucky tracks to confer with judge Murphy and other officials for the purpose of completing the personnel of the Fair Grounds racing family. Directors sanctioned issuance of 00,000 worth of the 00,000 increase in capital stock recently voted by the stockholders, making the capitalization for the present 00,000. President Dymond says that the financial condition of the association did not demand exercise of the complete privilege of raising the capital to 00,000. Present stockholders will be given thirty days option to purchase of the new issue on the basis of their old .holdings. Letters from judge Murphy and from C. J. Fitz Gerald, most prominently mentioned in connection with the presiding stewardship were made public. Judge Murphy wrote that he would take the position upon the associations terms. Mr. Fitz Gerald declined, giving as a reason his inability to make the duties fit into his year-round schedule with the Jockey Club.
